Macquarie Lighthouse Press becomes first Truly Green University Printer
As it joins the growing national list of Truly Green® printers, Macquarie Lighthouse Press of Macquarie University (NSW) also becomes the first university print shop to gain the highest industry recognised environmental certification. Well on its way to gaining ISO14001 certification the print shop is now Truly Green ® Certified with the Graphic Arts Services Association of Australia (GASAA).
Garry Knespal, Executive Officer of GASAA said he “was impressed with Macquarie’s adherence to the detailing training provided by Truly Green ® course presenter Paul Kohn of AKP Leura. All the staff showed a strong commitment to environmental improvements and the company had already made significant advances in the areas of waste toner management, power consumption, paper handling.
The move to more environmentally friendly printing practices is part of a wider sustainability strategy, through which the University aims to be environmentally sound, socially just, and economically viable in all its activities.
“Their environmental initiatives dovetail nicely into their lean manufacturing program, another core part of Macquarie Lighthouse Press’s approach to efficient work practices,” said Mr Knespal.
Macquarie Lighthouse Press Manager John Cason commented “I am delighted that Macquarie Lighthouse Press has gained the highest industry approved environmental credentials that are consistent with the broader university’s continuous efforts to reduce its environmental impact.” To date there are 15 certified Truly Green printers nationally, with 10 more expected to graduate before the end of the year.
